Alma Adams to honor Ella Scarborough on House floor

U.S. Rep. Alma Adams recently remembered the late Ella Scarborough as “a friend and sister in the struggle for human and civil rights.”

Today in Washington, Adams will pay tribute to Scarborough, the first Black woman to serve on the Charlotte City Council and the first to chair the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners.

Scarborough died May 24 at age 75.

Adams is keeping her remarks under wraps until the speech is delivered. (It’s set to be broadcast on C-SPAN — time unknown.)

In addition to her speech, Adams will enter into the Congressional Record a statement from the Board of Commissioners honoring its former chair.

This item first appeared in our morning newsletter, which is delivered Monday through Saturday to more than 7,000 smart subscribers in the Charlotte area. You can become one of them.
