Sabrina Gilchrist, executive director of Right Moves for Youth, said a first bike represents “a milestone of independence” for a child.

On Saturday, her organization joined The Spokes Group and employees from the city of Charlotte in building 75 bicycles for local children.

Right Moves for Youth provides group mentoring to middle and high school students, with a focus on education and social-emotional learning.

“We want to give kids the support and the guidance that they need to do well in school to make good decisions,” Gilchrist said. “And a huge part of that is incentivizing and rewarding students for making the right moves.”
