Floyd R. Davis, Jr. – president & CEO of Community Link

What inspires your work?

The ability to have a positive impact on the lives of people of color and help them achieve their dreams and begin to build wealth.

What makes Charlotte special?

Having worked in several communities elsewhere that were in economic decline, I wanted to move to a place that was growing and welcoming, with a diverse economic base.  Charlotte was that in 2002 when I moved here and has been ever since.  Charlotte is an open, welcoming city with lots of opportunities to get involved in the life of the city.

Who is/was your biggest inspiration and why?

My journey began in high school when Capt. Sid Carter, one of the football coaches, asked me during my senior year what I planned to do upon graduation.  When I said I expected to enroll in the Army, Carter, himself a captain in the Army Reserves, told me, “No, Davis. You’re going to college and I’m going to see to it that you do.”  He not only motivated me to pursue a college degree, he assisted in finding financial aid so that I could attend.  That education helped me acquire the skills and talents I use in my work today.
