Foundation For Black Philanthropy gives $40,000 to local, Black-led nonprofits

Combined, the Lethia Henderson and Elizabeth S. Randolph funds have given more than $500,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations. Each was established to address various concerns relating to Charlotte’s Black communities.

With the 2022 grants, the Henderson and Randolph funds have given more than $500,000 to local, Black-led nonprofits.

The two funds are part of the Foundation for Black Philanthropy, which was established at Foundation for the Carolinas in 1993 as a collective to celebrate and encourage the tradition of Black giving.

The 2022 recipients are:

Aspire Community Capital ($5,000): A community business academy that provides one-on-one coaching and support to rising business owners.

City Startup Labs ($5,000): Their Reentry Entrepreneurship Program trains former incarcerated people in digital technology services.

Johnson C. Smith Birthing Professionals ($2,500): Offers doulas, childbirth educator and lactation consult training. These services help fight infant and maternal mortality rate among people of color and creates more provides of color.

Money Magnet Club ($2,500): This organization teaches kids about business ownership and how to apply writing and music to entrepreneurship.

She Built This City ($10,000): Along with YMCA, She Built This City offers STEM curriculum activities to Charlotte youth.

My Brother’s Keeper – Charlotte ($2,500) Trains community volunteers to mentor boys and young men of color to network, pursue higher education, and shift their mindsets.

Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte ($10,000) Provides no cost repairs and modifications to low income homeowners.
