A Habitat for Humanity project in west Charlotte is getting some star power.

We told you last year about plans to build 39 Habitat homes on a nine-acre site where the Plato Price School once stood.

On Monday, Habitat officials announced that The Meadows at Plato Price will be an official Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.

At age 98, the former president and his 95-year-old wife won’t be visiting the site. Instead, construction will be cohosted by country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.

Before the Carter’s health became frail, the couple had been helping to build Habitat homes since 1984.

The Carter project last came to Charlotte in 1987, when 14 Habitat homes were built in Optimist Park.
