Anthony M. Wesley, the wine director at the upscale McNinch House restaurant in Charlotte, has launched a “non-traditional” wine school.
The New School for Wine aims to attract “people who enjoy wines, love to learn more about wine, or expand on their wine knowledge for their own benefit in their own time,” Wesley told QCity Metro via email.
The idea, he said, was spawned by his “interactions with a lot of wine enthusiasts.”
A class for beginners – Winetalk 101 – meets on Saturdays and costs $25. A more advanced class meets on Mondays for the same price.

On his website, Wesley describes himself as “a wine educator and lecturer with 35+ years of fine dining and wine experience.”
He said he transitioned into fine dining after a career in finance in New York.
At McNinch House, menus are priced starting at $130 per person, with wine pairings offered at $70 per person.
