One person dead after fatal vehicle collision in southeast Charlotte


One person has died after a fatal vehicle collision Sunday in southeast Charlotte.

According to a statement by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, at 6:47 p.m., officers responded to a serious injury crash in the 8900 block of Idlewild Road involving two vehicles colliding.

When officers arrived, they located a severely damaged 1995 Toyota Corolla with its two injured occupants and a severely damaged 2006 Infiniti G35 with its three injured occupants. 

Medic pronounced the right front passenger of the Toyota deceased. Medic transported the Toyota driver and all three occupants of the Infiniti to Atrium Health.

 According to CMPD, the initial investigation has revealed that Narshinbhai Patel, the driver of the Toyota,was traveling northwest on Idlewild Road and drove out of his lane to the left into oncoming traffic.  

Gamalier Navarro,the driver of the Infiniti, was traveling southeast on Idlewild.  Navarro swerved left in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the Toyota struck the Infiniti head on. 

Lilaben Patel, the right front passenger of the Toyota, died as a result of her injuries sustained in the crash. Navarro and his two passengers sustained minor injuries.

Patel’s driving was the proximate cause of the crash that resulted in his passenger’s death, according to CMPD. He was cited for Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle and Left of Center. Navarro was cited for No Operator’s License and a Child Seat violation.

Police said there are no known witnesses to the crash.
