Pedestrian killed in vehicle crach in north Charlotte


Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating a vehicle crash where a pedestrian was hit and killed Wednesday morning in north Charlotte.

According to a statement by CMPD, at 9:50 a.m., officers went to the 7400 block of Old Statesville Road in response to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they found a 2019 GMC Terrain with front-end damage and a pedestrian lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The driver of the GMC, identified as Demario Grier, was uninjured and remained on scene.

The victim, identified as 34-year-old Sean David, was transported by Medic to the hospital where he later died from his injuries substained in the crash.

According to CMPD investigation, Grier was driving southwest on Old Statesville Road and was in the left lane, closest to the median. The pedestrian was walking along the sidewalk on the same side of the road as the GMC.

The pedestrian ran out into the street and in the path of the GMC. Grier could not stop in time before the collision.

Impairment was not a factor in Grier’s driving, according to police screening. It is unknown if the pedestrian was impaired, but toxicology results are pending.
