One person has died after being shot following a police chase in northeast Charlotte.
According to a statement from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, shortly after 8:41 pm, officers responded to a Domestic Violence Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
When police arrived, they learned that the suspect forced a female into a car and fled the scene. Officers were able to determine the description of the vehicle and located the vehicle.
Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the suspect failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit began. During the pursuit, the suspect fired shots at officers.

One of the vehicles was struck by gunfire but no officers were injured. Officers did not return gunfire at any point during this incident, CMPD says.
The vehicle came to a stop at the 3200 block of Shamrock Drive and officers discovered the suspect was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic.
