QCity Newcomer: Meet Travon Wallace

Charlotte is a city brimming with newcomers.

By some estimates, about 120 people move here each day, making it one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities.

Travon Wallace moved here from Washington, D.C., less than a year ago.

I am a fourth-grade teacher.

My hobbies are working out and reading. I play video games every now and again.

What brought you here?

I was looking for a city where I could settle down and eventually purchase a home.

What do you like best about Charlotte?

I love everything about Charlotte. However, I really love the level of Black success here. I feel that Charlotte really is the mecca of North Carolina.

What do you like least about Charlotte?

I really hate the potholes. The city has to do something about those.

How do you hope to get involved in the community?

I plan to get more involved helping the homeless population within the warmer months. I will be providing food, clothes and toiletries to those in need.

What’s been your most memorable moment since moving here?

I have so many memorable moments, but I would have to say attending a Charlotte Hornets game earlier this year.
