Two men dead after a fatal vehicle collision Tuesday in northwest Charlotte.

Two men have died after a fatal vehicle collision Tuesday morning in northwest Charlotte.

Authorities have identified the victims as 25-year-old Onjenay Porter and 32-year-old David Coleman.

According to a statement by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, at approximately 5:10 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 2700 block of Freedom Drive.

When officers arrived, they located a 2004 Nissan Maxima and a 2017 Hyundai; both vehicles had severe damage. The drivers of both vehicles were found on the scene with serious injuries and transported to the hospital by Medic.

Porter and Coleman, the two passengers inside the Nissan Maxima, were pronounced dead on scene by Medic due to injuries sustained from the crash.

According to CMPD’s preliminary investigation, the Nissan Maxima was traveling west on Freedom Drive when she attempted to turn left from Freedom Drive onto Pacific Street. The Hyundai Sonata was traveling east on Freedom Drive when the Maxima turned directly in front of them, causing the Hyundai to collide into the Maxima, subsequently causing the Nissan to run off the road and come to a rest.

The investigation revealed that none of the occupants of the Nissan were wearing their seatbelts and the driver of the Nissan Maxima, Kenya Harris, was impaired.

Detectives obtained two warrants for Felony Death by Motor Vehicle against Harris. Citations for Driving While Impaired, Driving while License was Revoked, and Failure to yield Right of Way were also issued to Harris, who is still currently hospitalized at Atrium Main.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS to speak with a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
